After tons of speculations and rumors on his probable presidential candidacy, Rodrigo Duterte confirms running for president in the upcoming 2016 Philippine elections.
On
Rappler’s post dated November 21, 2015, Mayor Duterte confirms to Rappler via
phone----“Yes, I am running” (as posted by Rappler). On another report made by Inquirer.net, Duterte
lays it clearer with the words “My candidacy for the presidency is now on the
table,” during the birthday celebration of a classmate in law school held at
Cavite.
According
to the Mayor, his decision came out after the Senate Electoral Tribunal (SET) pitched
away the disqualification case against Presidential candidate Senator Grace Poe
on the issue of citizenship. “I cannot accept an American president”, the Mayor
gallantly told the press.
Reports
indicated Mayor Duterte will still have to speak with PDP-Laban (Partido
Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan) about his decision. Duterte will consult
the people behind his offered slot for presidency particularly Senator Aquilino
"Koko" Pimentel III. After the Mayor secures the blessing of the
party, he will make a formal declaration with the filing of his certificate of
candidacy.
Meanwhile,
social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram got flooded with the
hashtag #Duterte2016
which beat the famous and hottest love team AlDub’s carrier tweet-- #ALDUBFightForLove.
